About the Salient Achievements of the Department:   Nowgong College was established on 7th August, 1944. The science faculty of the college received affiliation from Gauhati University on 1st March, 1953. The Department of Botany was started before 1953, though the all records are not available today. From 1953 onwards, the teachers on permanent basis joined. The department was started with subject Biology. In 1958, degree section was opened and the subject â€œpure botanyâ€ was introduced in intermediate course in addition to Biology. It was then named as â€œDepartment of Biology and Botanyâ€ in 1970, when separate Zoology Department was established, it came to be known as â€œDepartment of Botanyâ€. Major course was introduced in 1968. ï± To develop interest in the concerned subject; ï± To develop responsibility towards the entire Biological world for its conservation and sustainable management; ï± To know about the potentiality of Biological world and their impact on human being and vise-versa; ï± To impart knowledge about the beneficial aspects of plants in every steps of life.
